The new Photoshop Cs3 is a big step for Adobe because it creates compatibility with the new Apple Intel based systems. The Beta version is available for free download at Adobe.com for Macintosh, Microsoft Windows Xp and Windows Vista computers. The final version of Adobe Photoshop Cs3 is planned to be released in spring 2007.
The new features on Photoshop Cs3 Beta are worth talking about them even if the application is not complete. Currently Adobe only have available for download a 2 days trail. You can extend the 2 days trial if you already own a licence and a 24 character serial for Adobe Photoshop Cs2.

1. System Requirements
Macintosh:
PowerPC G4 or G5 or Intel based Macintosh processor
Mac OS X v.10.4.8
320MB of RAM (512MB recommended)
64MB of video RAM
1.5GB of available hard-disk space
1,024x768 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card
DVD-ROM drive
Internet or phone connection required for product activation
QuickTime 7 software required for multimedia features

Windows:

2. The interface

A nice surprise on the new Photoshop is the interface, if you are used with the Photoshop you will find the new interface very helpful because it ocuppies less space on the screen so you can work with the pictures better. But if you want the old toolbar menu back you can change it with a click:

Every palette and setting can be changed to classic style 3 different workspace presets being available. The palettes don't float like in the other versions. They will minimize or maximize as you modify the main window. That might be a + or a - depending on what you use Adobe Photoshop Cs3 for. As a Web designer I find it bad that the pallets don't f low because the workspace is smaller.

3. The features

Non-destructive Smart Filters
To use this feature select a layer go to Filter->Convert for Smart Filter . Now you got a Non-destructive layer so you can apply any filters without worries.

Black and White conversion
The black and white conversion is a new useful tool that has arrived in Photoshop Cs3. The tool can be found in Image>Adjustments>Black & White. The tool analyzes the image and sets the best settings for it. You can also click and drag any place of the image to adjust the tones.

Refine Edge
The Refine Edge allows you to modify the properties of a selection edge. You can access it by creating your selection and going to: Select>Refine Edge. You can modify the edges Radius, Contrast, Smooth, Feather, Contract. The tool also contains a live preview in different ways: Mask, On black or white background or live image preview.

Automatic layer alignment and blending

This tool is simply smart. This tool combines the parts of layers to create a perfect image. Photoshop Cs3 will analyze the selected layers move them rotate them so that they overlap perfectly. You can find this tool in the Edit menu:

4. Other features
The new Photoshop Cs3 also comes with Adobe Bridge.
The Adobe Bridge Cs3 comes with a brand new interface easier to operate. In the Adobe Bridge Cs3 you can also find the Adobe Stock Photos Cs3 where you can buy amazing quality stock photos for small prices.

6. Bugs
There are a lot of bugs in the Beta release. This are the known ones:
Large cursors are not displayed on Intel-based Macs.
The Pattern Maker plug-in is not available on Intel-based Macs
Uninstall causes Acrobat 7 Pro and Reader to be automatically reconfigured on Windows XP.
Interpolation on image resize is not working correctly.
Certain plug-Ins are not being loaded on Intel-based Macs (AltiVec, PPCCore, Embed and Read Watermark).
Camera Raw is not yet scriptable.
Photoshop may crash on quit when running on a developer seed of Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard."
Non-Photoshop Open EXR files fail to open in Photoshop CS3.
PDF settings are not included. If you do not have Acrobat 8, you will not be able to save out as PDFx.
The Adobe Media Gallery (available in the File > Automate menu) is non-operational in the Photoshop CS3 Beta.
Unable to open a CMYK JPEG or images larger than 10,000 pixels per side if "Prefer ACR for JPEG" preference is checked.
Recovery and fill light sliders don't respond immediately on first use. If unable to open more then one JPEG on the Mac the workaround is to check the preference option to "Prefer ACR for JPEG."
Thumbnails don't always update in Bridge after editing raw file in PS ACR.[/img]
