Step 1 First find the text and font that you would like to alter, and then highlight that word you had just created with the text tool http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/Powerblaster/alter%20text%20by%20creating%20outlines%20Illustra tor/Picture1.jpg.

Step 2 Now you can slightly alter the text the way you have it setup now by either increasing the font size, changing the kerning (kerning is the space between the letters), leading (leading is the space between the baseline), or tracking (tracking is the spacing between all of the text). All these options can be found in the character menu.

Step 3 Now what we’re going to is create outlines for the text. This will turn all of your text into shapes so you can freely alter them. The way you do this is by selecting your text with the selection tool (or by V on the keyboard). If you have it highlighted with the text tool it wont work so make sure you have it selected the correct way.

Step 4 After it’s selected go to Type > Create Outlines (or you can use the hot key Shit+command+O for the Mac and Shift+control+O for the PC) Once you text is in outline mode you can alter it as much as you like till you have it the way you would like it. You can use the direct selection tool http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/Powerblaster/alter%20text%20by%20creating%20outlines%20Illustra tor/Picture7.jpg to select the points of the text to edit it.

nah it's not free it's part of the adobe suit and it's a great program to learn. If you like flash or making cool illustrations this program will be good tool to use.
